Rev. Rolly Walker and Rev. Andy Hurst will lead the service. Visitation with the family will be at Jeanne's home on Tuesday, February 17, 2009 from 4:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. Born in Bernice, LA on October 18, 1924, Jeanne passed away at Northern Louisiana Medical Center, Ruston, on February 15, 2009 following a brief illness. Jeanne is an education graduate of Louisiana Tech and taught elementary school many years ago in Lake Charles, before she became a home maker for the rest of her life. She leaves behind a loving family and many beloved old friends, some of whom go back to the time of her youth. Jeanne was an avid Saints fan, animal lover, bridge player, and because of her special humor and warmth, along with her one-of-a-kind southern style, was quite the mixer. She will certainly be missed, but those who knew Jeanne are assured that for her, life was "simply marvelous." Her family survivors include Billy Bob (canine); son: Dr. John Mills Armstrong, III and wife Jeanne Karen; grand children: Abigail Elaine Armstrong Simpkins and husband Aubrey, and Cody Justin Armstrong; great grandchildren: Eva Kathrann Simpkins, Tullie Jean Simpkins, and Bain Armstrong Simpkins; and many cherished nieces, nephews and cousins. Jeanne is preceded in death by her husband John Mills Armstrong, Jr. parents: Charlie and Gertrude Rhodes Patterson; brothers: Rhodes A. Patterson and wife Norma, and James N. Patterson and wife Margie; and many aunts and uncles and cousins of the old Rhodes family of Spearsville, LA. Though a simple memorial service, the family nevertheless wishes to recognize honorary pallbearers: Mayor John Perritt, Jimmy Mize, Mike Reed, Dr. Benji "Barney" Baugh, W. A. Jones, Billy James, Johnny Maxwell, Bill Patterson, Carl Johnson, Taylor Moore and Robert Temple. The family's thanks go to the wonderful care of Ms. Bonnie Dunn and Ms. Waynette Samuels. Memorials for Jeanne might include St. Jude Children's Hospital, 4- PAWS Rescue of Ruston, or the charity of your choice.
