MICHAEL ASHBROOK L. Michael Ashbrook, of Monroe, Louisiana, passed away on January 30, 2015, after a lengthy illness. He was 72 years old. Mike was born in Warrensburg, Missouri, on October 11, 1942. He was a graduate of Southwest Missouri State University and Louisiana State University School of Law. Mike began his legal career in Monroe, Louisiana, at Shotwell, Brown & Sperry from 1970-1985 before becoming a founding partner in Shafto & Ashbrook in 1985. He was a successful entrepreneur, having many business interests in health care, opening the Guest House and The Oaks nursing facilities, multiple real estate interests, and banking. In 1998, Mike was instrumental in the development of the community banking era in Monroe by starting Horizons Bank where he served as Chairman of the Board of Directors. He also served on the Boards of American Horizons Bank and Louisiana Bank in Monroe and Fidelity Bank in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Mike's love for the Lord and his heart for foreign missions led him to serve as a founding member of his local church, Evangel Temple Assembly of God Church, where he also served on the Board of Directors. He served on The Assemblies of God Financial Services Group Board, General Council of the Assemblies of God Foundation Board and the Assemblies of God- Past Layman's Advisory Council to Foreign Missions Board of Directors. Mike was Chairman of the Board for WorldServ International which develops and builds water wells and churches in impoverished regions throughout Africa. Mike was preceded in death by his parents, Reverend Lowell C. and Edna Tanner Ashbrook. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Loretta Barkley Ashbrook; his two sons, Scott Ashbrook and his wife, Donna of Monroe and Jeff Ashbrook of Denver, Colorado; his three grandsons: Lowell Ashbrook, Hunter Ashbrook and Archer Ashbrook; and his sister Janice Clay and brother John Ashbrook. Visitation will be held on Saturday, February 7, 2015 from 10:00 A.M -12:00 P.M. at Evangel Temple Assembly of God Church located at 5800 Frontage Road, Monroe, Louisiana. Funeral services will follow at 1:00 P.M. at the church. Reverend Calvin Stapp and Reverend Geary Phillips will officiate. Services are under the direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Homes Monroe. Serving as pallbearers are Mr. Don Logan, Mr. Charlie Bruce, Mr. Tom Baker, Mr. Tommy Smith, Mr. Ronald Goux and Mr. Chuck Pruett. A private entombment will follow at Kilpatrick's Serenity Gardens Mausoleum in West Monroe, Louisiana.
