James Gass and Rev. Ken Hoots officiating. Interment will follow at Highland Park Cemetery under the direction of Young's Community Memorial Funeral Home in Winnsboro. Nathan Ashley was born May 05, 1922 in Natchez, MS and passed away Friday September 05, 2008 at Riverland Medical Center in Ferriday. He was a resident of Sicily Island, a retired employee of Louisiana Dept of Transportation, and a member of the First Baptist Church of Sicily Island. He faithfully served our country in the U.S. Army, rank of Staff Sgt during World War II. He was preceded in Death by: Wife Ella (Ellerbe) Ashley; Father Lonnie Ashley; Mother Janie (Gober) Ashley; Daughter Gerdine Aarons; 3 Grandchildren Raymond Easley, Jason Ashley, and Jody Ashley; 4 Brothers and 1 Sister. Survivors include: Daughter Ann McElwee and husband Robert of Hammond, LA, Son Donald Ashley and wife Joy of Sicily Island, Daughter Adrisha Jenkins and husband Barry of Sicily Island; 4 Sisters, 7 Grandchildren, and 15 Great Grandchildren. The Pallbearers will be Cole Lofton, Kevin Ashley, Bobby Ferrara, David Cannon, Willard Kassel, and Girault Bird. Mr. Ashley's family would like to express their deepest appreciation to the staff of Plantation Oaks Nursing Home for the care and kindness extended to their father for the past years. Also a special thanks to Riverland ICU nurses and staff along with Dr. Lee and Dr. Coney for the wonderful care given to their father.
