COACH GALE LYNN ASHLEY

Funeral services for Gale Lynn Ashley, 69, of Longview, TX, formerly of 
Crowville will be 10 am Thursday, February 2, 2017 at First Baptist Church, 
Crowville, with Rev. Jimmy Harper officiating. Interment will follow in 
Crowville Masonic Cemetery under the direction of Gill First National Funeral 
Home. Visitation will be 6 - 8 pm Wednesday February 1, 2017 at the funeral 
home

Coach Ashley was born June 6, 1947 in Winnsboro to the union of C. M. Ashley 
and Doris Harper Ashley; he passed from this life on January 30, 2017 at Haven 
Care Center in Longview.

Coach Ashley, coached for 37 years in both Louisiana and Texas. HE began his 
coaching career in Richland Parish at Mangham Junior High. After one year there 
he moved to Mangham High School where he coached for 17 years, after his tenure 
at Mangham he coached in Ouachita Parish and became head coach at West Ouachita 
High School. After retiring from Louisiana he moved to Texas and continued 
coaching. After several stops along the way he became head coach at Center High 
School, where he was2004 3A Texas Sports Writers coach of the year.

He is preceded in death by his parents and sister Pam Ashley.

Survivors include his wife of 47 years Jeanette Ashley of Longview, TX; three 
sons: David Ashley and wife Kristine of Longview, TX, Michael Ashley of Seoul, 
Korea and Keith Ashley of Dallas, TX; four grandchildren: Morganne Ashley, 
Aaron Ashley, Stella Barton and Jagger Barton; one sister Tammie McDaniel and 
husband Jack of Crowville; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Pallbearers will be Bubba Bell, Robert Boughton, Joe Chapman, Donnie Harper, B 
E Pickett, Mike Sharbono, Danny Walters, and Eddie Ward.
