Mrs. Atkins was a native of Fountain Hill and a resident of Hamburg since 1960. She graduated from Fountain Hill High School in 1950 and served as the Ashley County Clerk from 1978 to 1994. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church where she was a past president of the United Methodist Women. She was an avid bridge player and she enjoyed the Friday Night Ladies Supper Club. She is preceded in death by her husband, of 42 years, Gerald Sterling (Ted) Atkins; a son, Gerald Sterling (Teddy) Atkins, Jr.; her parents, Chase & Mildred Maxwell Phillips; two brothers, Chase A. Phillips, Jr. and Peter Phillips. She is survived by a son, Corry Page Atkins, of Monroe, Louisiana; a daughter, Jane Magnuson and husband, Peter, of Rosemount, Minnesota; a sister, Jane Cason of Anchorage, Alaska; two grandchildren Haley Margaret and Bennett Joseph Magnuson and numerous nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, September 20, 2008 at the First United Methodist Church in Hamburg. Burial will be in the Snyder Cemetery. Visitation will be 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM Friday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church Memorial Fund, 202 S. Main, Hamburg, AR; the Helping Hands Food Pantry, c/o Mrs. Mary Williams, 816 Pine Ridge Drive, Hamburg, AR 71646 or to a charity of your choice.
