She was born on November 11, 1924, in Monroe, Louisiana. She graduated from Ouachita Parish High School in 1940. Afterwards, she attended Northeast Junior College for a year and then American Commercial College for a year. She worked for the Louisiana State Unemployment Commission for a year as a secretary and for three years as a claims examiner. On October 20, 1946, she married Francis D. Bachman, Jr., and they moved to San Angelo in 1950 to get out of the rain. (In her own words, they surely did!) She graduated Magna Cum Laude from Angelo State College in 1968 with BA in Spanish and speech. Further studies resulted in certifications in Exceptional Children and English. Becky taught special education in the San Angelo Independent School District for 10 years, and for 6 years she taught speech and drama at Wall High School before her retirement. At Wall she organized a Humane Society for student animal advocates, and she was voted "Teacher of the Year" twice. Becky was an active member of First Baptist Church where she taught children in Sunday School for decades. She also sang in the church choir and the senior adult Glory Choir until physical impairments forced her to discontinue. She was active in the homebound ministry at the church, and after retirement, she volunteered for the Baptist Memorials Auxiliary. Other accomplishments and memberships include Who's Who in American Universities, Who's Who in the Southwest, Alpha Chi National Honor Society (secretary), Alpha Mu Gamma International Foreign Language Society (president), Sigma Delta Pi National Spanish Honor Society, Delta Kappa Gamma International Honor Society for Teachers, NEA, TSTA, Philharmonic Society, San Angelo Dinner Club, San Angelo Symphony, ASU Ex-students Association, and AAUW. Becky was always active and enthusiastic about any task that she undertook. She loved to swim and water ski, and enjoyed many happy hours boating with her family on local lakes. She was an avid reader and was constantly trying to improve her knowledge through books. Other interests included biking, gardening, sewing, and classical music. She kept her camera with her wherever she went, taking photos of people, scenic views, and memorable events. Becky's vivacious personality and giving spirit won many friends in San Angelo and the surrounding counties. Becky will be dearly missed by her family and friends.
