Plano, TX Funeral services for Mr. William Clark "Bill" Baker, age 69, will be held Thursday, November 20, 2008 at 2:00 P.M. in Salem Baptist Church with Dr. Scott Fenton and Dr. Don McCormick officiating and the Eulogy by Duncan McRae, Jr., his longtime friend and colleague. Interment will follow under the direction of Bailey Mortuary, Plain Dealing, LA. Mr. Baker was born August 9, 1939 in Marion, LA and passed away November 16, 2008 in Plano, TX. He had been a resident of Plano, TX for the past 16 years and was a member of the Baptist faith. Mr. Baker was also a veteran of the US Army. He graduated from Marion High School in 1957 where he was an All Star Baseball Player. Immediately after high school he was asked to try out for the Brooklyn Dodgers. After returning home from his major league tryouts, he then entered into the Army and was stationed in Germany for three years. Upon his return, Bill began his twenty plus years at Melton Truck Lines. He then went on to work with several major trucking companies over the next ten years, taking his family to California and then back to his home state of Texas, where he ended his career with Landstar. He then started his own business in the late nineties, Baker Logistics, which is now run by his son Brad. Bill was a 32nd degree Mason. He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Nell Huddleston Baker; sons, William C. "Bill", Jr. and wife, Kami of Parker, CO, William Bradley "Brad" Baker and wife, Lori of Plano, TX; daughter, Teresa Ball of Bossier City, LA; son-in- law, Ricky Ball of Doyline, LA; grandchildren, Zach Baker, Sydney Baker, Summer Chambers and husband, Kirk, Cody Ball; great grandchildren, Alexis and Garrett Chambers; brother, James Baker and wife, of Charlotte, N.C.; sister, Helen Hays of Monroe, LA; mother-in-law, Georgia Huddleston; brothers-in-law, Travis Huddleston & wife, Nell, Jerry Huddleston and wife, Linda; two nephews, Judd and Justin Baker; loving friend and caretaker, MaElena Saucedo and his faithful companion, Angel. Pallbearers will be Larry Waters, Charles SanAngelo, Gary Smoot, Sammie Craft, Billy Heid and Roger Downing.
