Billy Vaughn officiating. Internment will follow at Carlton Cemetery in Calhoun, LA. Mrs. Barnes was born September 11, 1919 in Eros, LA and passed away at her residence in Calhoun, LA on October 11, 2009. She was a member of the Clark Springs Baptist, a charter member of First Baptist Church in Calhoun, LA., and a member of the Eastern Star. Mrs. Barnes worked at Drew Elementary School Cafeteria for many years. She had a passion for cooking, and enjoyed flowers and gardening. She was famous for her yellow cake, her Banana Pudding and her Chicken and Dumplings. Mrs. Barnes had a generous caring nature with a love for animals, especially strays. She and her late husband, J.Y. Barnes, operated their dairy farm in Calhoun, LA for many years. Survivors include her children, Carolyn Gilbert and husband Jerry, Betty Wallace and husband James, Kay Brown and husband Harry, Eddie Barnes and wife Ann, Harry Barnes and wife Loraine and J. Hugh Barnes and wife Lila; fifteen grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren. Pallbearers will be Mack Calhoun, Royce Calhoun, Chris Bartlett, Dathan Phillips, Charles Phillips and Joe Phillips. Visitation will be held from 9:00 AM until service time Tuesday at Mulhearn Funeral Home, West Monroe. Memorials may be made to the Clark Springs Baptist Church or to the charity of your choice. In an hour of need you could always count on Mrs. Barnes, she will be missed.
