Interment will follow at Choudrant Memorial Cemetery under the direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Home of Ruston, LA. Visitation will be Tuesday, August 15, 2017 from 5-8 PM at First Baptist Church of Ruston. Love. Agape love. Love without bounds and unconditional. Garrison was the firstborn son of Gary and Lori Barr and the "big brother" to Claire, Ethan, and Jack. What some may consider a burden, the family has grown to think of as a blessing. Garrison and autism were a true blessing to all those who loved him. Garrison has helped the family learn the beauty of patience, the power of prayer, and the meaning of compassion. When thinking about Garrison, it was evident he was happy and loved. Although Garrison did not communicate with words, he communicated well. In fact, Pop's prayers that Garrison will talk are made evident now in Heaven. It was evident that he was quite aware of what was going on in his world, was able to get his needs met, and show his love. He was compassionate, even to his favorite pup, Gabanna. Although Garrison was starving, he would stop and feed the dog first. He enjoyed order and knew the ways things "should" be. So much so, that if something (regardless of what it was) was out of place, he would rightly remove it, most often to its "rightful" place of the trash. Garrison is described as the "Keeper of the Door". He was the one that would let the dogs in and out… even the "forbidden ones". He took after his Mur for his love of animals. He loved his family and close friends; however, he enjoyed his "alone" time. Frequently Garrison would get up from his "Burt Reynolds' pose" on the bed, go to the door and close it when others would leave. He would be seen pondering off into the sky, oftentimes, causing others to wish they knew what was swirling in his head. Garrison's thought life was rich, indeed. Swimming and being in water seemed to give Garrison peace. One is reminded of the Living Water, the Holy Spirit that would surround Garrison when he swam and showered. Yes, Jesus knew him well!!! The family will truly miss seeing him making laps around the house and pool, opening chip bags in the middle, finding brownies with the middle eaten out, opening pizza boxes with the toppings being devoured, laughing when he "stole" a strangers chicken leg in a restaurant, the elbow fist-bumps, and having to explain that every can of Coca-cola was "actually" Garrison's. Garrison was dedicated to the Lord at First Baptist Church of Choudrant. He was preceded in death by his grandparents: "Pops", Jerry Lovett, Sr.; "Granddaddy", Iley Barr; "Mur", Irene Barr; and uncles: Earnest Conn and Bobby Ambrose. Survivors include his parents, Gary and Lori Barr of Choudrant, LA; sister, Claire Barr of Choudrant; brothers, Ethan Barr and Jack Barr of Choudrant; grandparent, "Nana", Joyce Williamson Lovett of Calhoun, LA; aunts and uncles: Julie Aswell and husband, Werner; Jerry Lee Lovett, Jr. and wife, Amelia; aunts, Jeanette Conn and Barbara George and husband, W. H.; and a host of beloved cousins. Memorials may be made to Samaritan's Purse Christmas Shoe Boxes, Med Camps of LA, and/or Gideon Bibles International. Pallbearers include Taylor Aswell, Jeffrey Housley, Jade Gabb, Josh Sanderson, Heath Crocker, Lane Odom, Jurdon Thomas, Blake Thomas, Garrett Burch, and Heath Sadler. The family wishes to thank his respite workers, Sherry Davis and Lori Zumwalt for their excellent care.
