Jim Reid Officiating. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. Tuesday at the First United Methodist Church in Tallulah, LA. Burial will be at Memorial Park Cemetery in Tallulah, la under the direction of Crothers-Glenwood Funeral Home. Mr. Batchelor was born on February 13, 1923 in Vicksburg, MS and passed away on January 26, 2013 in Tallulah, LA following an extended illness. Mr. Batchelor grew up in Vicksburg, MS and after high school he volunteered to be in the U. S. Army during World War II. He was an infantry rifleman and a staff sergeant in the 87th Infantry Division, the "Golden Acorn" Division. Mr. Batchelor was seriously injured in fierce combat on February 27, 1945 in Germany during the Battle of the Bulge. He received numerous medals and commendations related to his military service. In his later years he wrote many interesting stories about his war experiences. Mr. Batchelor worked in insuance sales for over fifty years for the National Life and Accident Insurance company and the American General Insurance Company. Mr. Batchelor was an avid golfer and in his younger years he enjoyed both hunting and fishing. Mr. Batchelor was a member of the First United Methodist church since moving to Tallulah in the 1950's. Survivors include his wife of 42 years Nell Brulte Batchelor; two sons George Batchelor, Jr. and Mike Batchelor and his wife Ruth; two daughters Helen Grissom and Mary Hamilton; three stepsons Kevin Brulte, Greg Brulte and Mark Brulte and his wife Amanda; five grandchildren Leah Lane, Matthew Batchelor; John Hamilton, Hannah Grissom and Taylor Grissom; four step-grandchilren Saylor Brulte, Kate Brulte, William Brulte and Anna Brulte; and numerous nephews, nieces, friends and his devoted pet cat Rita. Mr. Batchelor was preceded in death by his first wife Peggy C. Batchelor; his parents Ggordon A. Batchelor and Tommie Batchelor Powers; two brothers Gordon Batchelor and Earl Batchelor. Mr. Batchelor was dearly loved by all that knew him and he will be greatly missed. Donations in Mr. Batchelor's memory may be made to the First United Methodist Church of Tallulah, The Parkinson's Disease Foundation or the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research. Pallbearers will be Kirk Morley, Charles Finlayson, Lee Fore, John Hamilton, Matthew Batchelor, and Bill Clark.
