Memorial services for Mr. James Franklin (Frank) Baxter, age 96 of Ruston, will be held at 2:30 PM Wednesday, March 24, 2010 at Trinity United Methodist Church with Rev. Rolly Walker officiating. Private burial will be held with Rev. Jerry Hilbun officiating. Services are under the direction of Owens Memorial Chapel Funeral Home of Ruston. Mr. Baxter passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by family on March 21, 2010. He was born January 28, 1914 in Ruston to Simeon Baxter and Frances Stewart Baxter. Frank graduated from Ruston High School and attended Louisiana Tech University. He worked for 37 years for the US Postal service, serving in all capacities including Postmaster of Ruston for the last 11 years of his long career. Frank Retired in 1973 at the age of 59. During World War II, Frank served as a flight instructor in the US Army Air Corps in Denver, CO from 1942 to 1944. Frank's many interests included hunting, fishing, gardening, golf, playing cards and having coffee with his friends. Frank was preceded in death by his parents, his wife of 51 years, Audrey Price Holland Baxter and step-son Thomas Scott Holland. He was the last surviving sibling of Lela Liner Lyles, Oliver Liner, Etta Liner Walker, Vera Baxter Bennett, Johnny Baxter and Verlie Baxter Avery. Frank is survived by his step-son James Dudley Holland, III and wife Beth of Choudrant, step-daughter, Gayle Holland Taylor of Dallas, son James Blakely Baxter, daughter Frankie Lee Baxter, both of California and many grandchildren, nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank Hospice of Caring Hearts, especially nurse Sally Jones. Also "Mr. B's" team of devoted caregivers: Richard Dunn, Michael Johnson, Carrie Bishop, Angela Bishop, Phyllis Jackson, Barbara Jenkins and Clinton Mitchell for the kind, caring service they provided. Special recognition goes to Lela Chaney for the many, many years of devoted service to both Frank and Audrey. Pallbearers will be his grandsons: James Andrew Taylor, Jr., Scott Holland Taylor, Price Ayars Taylor and David Roan Black. Honorary pallbearers will be his special friends Mike Reed and Dan O'Neal, Jr. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Trinity United Methodist Church or to the Methodist Children's Home.
