BERRY Funeral services for Burton Wesley Berry, Jr. will be Thursday July 17, 2014 at First Methodist Church, Monroe at 1 pm, with Gill First National Funeral Home of Winnsboro in charge of arrangements. The Rev. J. Roddy Taylor and The Very Rev. Richard Norman will officiate. Mr. Berry was a native of Tensas Parish. He grew up on Wavertree Plantation, Waterproof, and lived in St. Joseph most of his adult life and moved to Monroe in 1997. He attended Louisiana Tech and was a member of the Louisiana Tech football team and Kappa Sigma fraternity. He also attended the School of Business at Texas Tech. He served in the US Navy aboard a minesweeper off the coast of Sasebo, Japan, in World War II. He was a retired farmer and businessman. Mr. Berry is preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, Clifford Wilkerson Berry; beloved twin brother, Fred S. Berry; sister, Elizabeth Berry Lynch; brother, Ed Berry; brother, Oliver Berry. He is survived by his wife, Mary Kathryn; three daughters, Laurie Berry, Virginia Ann Reeves and husband Michael; Julie McIntosh and husband, Dave; twin grandsons, Stephen and Michael Reeves, stepsons Robert L. Firnberg and Dr. Thomas Firnberg; step-grandson, John Robert Firnberg; daughter-in-law, Donna Firnberg, and a host of nieces and nephews. Burton dearly loved his family; he was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He was a devout Churchman and for many years, served as a volunteer at St. Vincent de Paul Pharmacy. He was an avid golfer, amateur historian and genealogist. Pallbearers will be grandsons and other family members. Honorary pallbearers will be: Dr. Randall Barron, Carrick Inabnett, Joe James, Dr. John Little, Dan McDuff, Don McGehee, Jr., Jim Myers, John Tucker and Lee Tugwell. Mr. Berry's family wishes to thank Dr. David Barnes, The War Veterans Home, the Nephrology Associates, the Dialysis Center and the staff of the Renal Floor, St. Francis Hospital for the gentle care shown their loved one. In lieu of flowers, they request planned memorials to be sent to First Methodist Church, Monroe, First Methodist Church, St. Joseph or St. Vincent de Paul Pharmacy, Monroe. The family will receive friends at the church one hour before service time. Interment will be at 3:30 pm in Legion Memorial Cemetery, Newellton.
