Mrs. Biggs was born on December 6, 1919 in Baskin, LA and passed away on March 14, 2014 in West Monroe, LA. She earned her Master's Degree from LA Tech and was a teacher in the Ouachita Parish School System for more than 30 years. She was a member of Edgewood Baptist Church and the Louisiana Retired Teachers Association. Each member of our family as well as former students at West Monroe Jr. High and friends have many special memories of their time spent with her. She was a wonderful story teller and shared many memories with us of her years growing up and things she had witnessed and experienced. Many times, when she was out and about, she would tell us how much she had enjoyed seeing and talking with one of her former students. Throughout her life she enjoyed travelling with tour groups and saw much of the U. S. with her older sister, Berta, or her close friend, Elnora. After her retirement she and our dad enjoyed weekends camping and fishing on Lake D'Arbonne with their circle of friends. Other interests included cooking, sewing and especially gardening. She enjoyed reading, especially Christian fiction, and read her Bible daily without fail. She loved the Lord and was active in her church singing in the Sr. Adults Choir until her health failed. To our family she was the ultimate homemaker, loving mother, mother-in-law, grandmother and great-grandmother. She is survived by her daughters, Barbara Biggs Dumas and husband, Bobby of West Monroe, LA , and Ann Biggs Sims of Greenville, SC; granddaughters, Paige Smith Moore and husband, Danny of Monroe, LA, Alaina Smith Johnson and husband, Craig of Maumelle, AR, Christy Smith Roach and husband, Tim of West Monroe, LA, Leigh Ann Sims of Greenville, SC, and Shannon Dumas of White River Junction, VT; grandson, Derek Dumas and wife, Kristi of Start, LA; great- grandchildren, Mattison, Hannah, Blake, Brooke, Erin, Kayin and Cooper; and numerous nephews and nieces. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 60 years, Sherman D. Biggs and parents, John L. and Eva May Howington. She was the youngest and last surviving of 7 children. The family sends a special thank you to the staff at the Arbor/Terrace, La. Hospice and especially Lesley Bishop for their loving and compassionate care to our Mom. And a loving "thank you" to Ms. Maxine, her long-time friend, for making Mom's stay at The Arbor so much better because you were there. Memorials may be made to Alzheimer Foundation, 322 Eighth Ave., 7th Floor, New York, NY 10001.
