Interment will follow at Welcome Home Cemetery in Grayson, Louisiana. Mrs. Blackman died Saturday, October 4, 2014 at St. Francis Specialty Hospital in Monroe. Mrs. Blackman was a retired Office Manager for the Caldwell Parish School Board. She was a member of the Grayson Baptist Church. She loved to fish. She loved doing for others, especially her numerous "adopted" children, who fondly called her "Nana". She was a great influence on her grandchildren, of whom she was very proud. She believed in education and helped many to fulfill their potential. Survivors include her daughters Debra Blackman, Clara Blackman West and Gail Blackman; her grandson, Chris Rhymes and his wife Meghan; her granddaughter Kate Rhymes; her "great friends" Sherry Hegwood, Melissa Carter, Lola Wheeler and "the best friend anyone could have" Claudia McGuire; her brothers George "Bill" King and wife Margaret, and Dr. Harold King and wife Sandra; sister Doris King Sturrant; sisters-in-law Alice Blackman Winegeart, Doris Smith Blackman, Nell Tyler King; many nieces and nephews; and her loving caregivers Bonnie Brown, Dominique Carter, Evangeline Worthy and Dorothy Washington. Mrs. Blackman is preceded in death by her husband Jesse David Blackman, Jr. Visitation will be held from 5:00 until 7:00 PM, Monday, October 6, 2014 at Mulhearn Funeral Home Chapel of Monroe, Louisiana. Pallbearers will be Richard Bradford, Mike Rhymes, John Ed Bartmess, Hal Hays, Ken Lowery, Randy Tolliver and Brett Racheal. Memorials may be made to the Food Bank of Louisiana or the Louisiana Baptist Children's Home.
