BLUCK A graveside service and interment for John L. Bluck, Sr., a longtime resident of Monroe, will be at 1:00 P.M., Wednesday, July 2, 2014 at Mulhearn Memorial Park, 623 E Hwy 80, Monroe, LA 71203. Visitation will be Wednesday, July 2, 2014 from 10:00 AM until Noon at Kilpatrick Funeral Home, 1200 Lamy Lane, Monroe, LA 71201. Mr. Bluck was born August 6, 1922 in Stamps, AR. He was the only child to Johnnie Mabel Langham Bluck McQuerry and Roscoe Bluck. His father died three days after he was born. After his father's death, he and his mother returned to Columbia LA, her home town, where he grew up and graduated from Columbia High. He then attended Northeast Louisiana College in Monroe, but his studies were interrupted by WWII. Mr. Bluck served three years in Europe with US Army 8th Air Corps, earning the rank of Sergeant. After his discharge, he resumed his studies at LSU in Baton Rouge where he earned a degree in journalism. After college, Mr. Bluck started and owned newspapers in Delhi, LA, Eunice, LA, and St. Elmo, IL. He was reporter, photographer, editor and publisher. Later he moved to Monroe and was the National Advertising Manager for the Monroe News-Star for many years. Mr. Bluck was an outstanding photographer, an avid fisherman and a coin collector, with an immense knowledge of Ancient Greek and Roman coins and the history during that period. He was active in the Louisiana Republican Party, holding several statewide party positions. He was also active with the Indian Guides and Boy Scouts. Mr. Bluck was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Edith Carolyn Harrison Bluck of Jonesboro, LA. He is survived by two sons, John L. Bluck, Jr of Houston, TX and James L. Bluck of Westfield, NJ; one daughter-in-law, Ma Lee Bluck; granddaughter, Emily Bluck, both of Westfield, NJ. He will be missed as a father and remembered as a good friend.
