On March 3, 2014, at Carpenter's House in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, he exited the stage and death closed the curtain on the earthly life and opened the door to an eternal tomorrow. He is preceded in death by his parents and his grandmother Laura "Mammy" Mason Blunt who raised both Shelton and his brother Henry "Jack" Blunt, who also preceded him in death. Brother Blunt was one of the first to be baptized at Second Baptist Church at an early age in Winnsboro, Louisiana. Shelton was a true servant leader and rendered faithful service in many roles at Second Baptist Church until his health would no longer allow his service. Shelton graduated from Franklin Parish Training School in 1944. After graduation he enlisted in the United States Navy. Upon returning home from service in World War II, Shelton enrolled at Southern University in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, where he received a Bachelor of Science in Business Education. He later received a Master's Degree in Administration and Supervision. A noted educator, Shelton began his teaching career at Waverly High School, in Delhi, Louisiana. He next became principal at Franklin Parish Training School (later Franklin Parish High School). In 1970, he became principal of the Winnsboro Upper Elementary School and retired in May, 1986. He was then employed as the bookkeeper for UMA Headstart Program. On August 9, 1952, he was united in holy matrimony to Lillian Jackson. Together, Shelton and Lillian embarked on a long and fruitful journey of loving and nurturing an entire community of sons and daughters through education and community service. Many of you reading this will count yourselves among the hosts who were lovingly guided by the hand of Shelton Blunt. Brother Blunt leaves to cherish his memories: a loving and devoted wife of 61 years: Lillian J. Blunt; one daughter: Shirley Jean Samuel, Kenner, Louisiana; four sons: James (Linda) Louis, LaPlace, Louisiana; Samuel (Louella) Washington, Bertrand (Christine) Blunt, Shelton "Dennis" (Valerie) Blunt, all of Baton Rouge, Louisiana; thirteen grandchildren; twelve great grandchildren, one great- great grandchild, a host of nieces and nephews who considered him a second father and their children a grandfather, other relatives, friends, and the Winnsboro Second Baptist Church family.
