Jimmy Harper and Rev. David Shirley officiating. Interment will follow in Ford Field Cemetery, Mangham, under the direction of Gill First National Funeral Home. Visitation will be 1:30 pm until time of service at the church. Mr. Boughton was born August 18, 1942, in Monroe to the union of Bennie Newberry Boughton and Sadie Earline Vining; he passed from this life on June 10, 2016, at his residence in Mangham. Mr. Boughton made a living as a farm chemical manager, but his love was being a gunsmith. There are very few pawn shop and gun shop owners that don't know him and respect his knowledge of guns. John's door was always open, even to a stranger, to help sight a gun, fix a mount, or load some ammunition. His target range was well-known throughout Northeast Louisiana. One can only speculate how many thousands of rounds were shot on the range. There were many memories and friendships made at the range. In addition to his love of guns, he enjoyed his annual prairie dog hunting trips with his buddies. More importantly than guns, hunting trips, and farm chemicals, he loved the Lord and spending time with his family. Know your target, aim high, and keep your powder dry. These principles, applied to your daily life, will help you hit the bull's-eye. He is preceded in death by his parents: first wife, Joann Boughton; daughter, Carla Hedgepeth; sister, Sue B. Smith; step son, Johnny Morris. Survivors include his wife, Carol Magee Morris Boughton of Mangham; grandchildren: Sara Hedgepeth, John William Hedgepeth and Julie; son-in-law, Steve Hedgepeth of Shreveport; brother, Robert Louis Boughton of Mangham; a host of nieces and nephews; stepdaughter, Paula Morris of Winnsboro; step grandchildren: Logan, Jordan, Clayton, and Brenan Morris; Caleb, Katie, and Jonah Sharbono; two step grandchildren; step daughter-in-law, Jan Morris Doughty and husband Terry of Start; mother-in-law, Edna Barton of Mangham; brother-in-law, Dr. Donald Smith and wife Kathy of Shreveport; and a host of other relatives and friends.
