Mrs. Boyter passed away Sunday, March 8, 2009. Jackie was raised in a military family. Her dad was in the U.S. Navy and U.S. Coast Guard. The family was stationed at ports from Alaska, Florida, and the entire coast of California. Jackie attended seventeen different schools and even earned a scholarship to the University of Florida for Graphic Design. During WWII, she was employed by the 12th Naval District in her beloved home town of San Francisco, California. At the end of WWII, the family settled in Alexandria, Louisiana. Jackie had many skills and worked for the family business; Westside Services and was bookkeeping at several other businesses. It was when she was employed at Couch Motor Lines where she met her future husband, Roland Boyter. After the requisite courtship, Jackie and Roland married and set up homesteading in Monroe, Louisiana, where she became a fulltime homemaker and mother to James, Jon, and Joel. Jackie was active at all her son's schools and activities. She was a gifted artist and avid gardener who enjoyed sharing the fruits of her labor whether it was a "mess" of greens or a handmade pinecone Christmas wreath. She loved animals and always had various pets in her home. She loved to fish much to the delight of the stray cats at the houseboat, where the family owned property on the Ouachita River. The fun times at the houseboat are memories enjoyed by all that spent time up there. In her "golden" years, Jackie kept busy with other hobbies not so labor intensive. She learned to cook from her mother and mother- in-law, but developed her own style with recipes she remembered from her youth in the various cities she lived in during WWII. All three sons inherited her love of cooking and are carrying on her tradition. Jackie was a kind, generous, and loving person and we will miss her, but she lives on in our hearts. Survivors include her sons, James Hill Boyter and wife Rebecca, Jon Wesley Boyter, and Joel Greer Boyter; sister, Robbie L. Laborde of San Clemente, CA; brother, Ray V. Laborde of Ridgecrest, CA; grandchildren, Jacqueline Powell of Shreveport, LA, Justin Boyter of Shreveport, LA, Hillary Boyter of Champaign, IL, and Beaux Boyter of Champaign, IL; great granddaughter, Taylor Powell and Brittany Powell; many nieces and nephews. Visitation will be 9:00 AM until service time Thursday, March 12, 2009 at Mulhearn Funeral Home Chapel, Sterlington Road, Monroe.
