Interment will follow at Liberty Hill Cemetery in Farmerville, under the direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Home of Farmerville. Mr. Brantley was born August 7, 1927 and passed away April 24, 2013. "Papa Joe" was a lifelong resident of Union Parish and was proud to call Farmerville his home for 85 years. He was retired from the Union Parish Clerk of Court's office, serving as Union Parish Clerk for 24 years, and past president of the Louisiana Clerks of Court Association. "Papa Joe" also served as bookkeeper for the Union Parish School Board. He and his good friend Hoyt Tettleton owned an appliance repair business in the early years and he also enjoyed working at the ice plant with Mr. O.O. Cummins. He was a veteran of the United States Army. "Papa Joe" was a member of the Farmerville Church of Christ, Ward Chapel Church of Christ, the Farmerville Lions Club, and the Old Coffee Drinking Club at Baughman's City Drugstore. He was also a proud supporter of the University of Louisiana at Monroe Athletic program, where he and Barbara enjoyed some great times tailgating in the "Grove" before the football games. "Papa Joe" was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 54 years, Barbara Dean Brantley, and his parents, William Benjamin Brantley, and Lillie Mae Brantley. Survivors include his sons, Steve Brantley and Lora of Farmerville, La. and Kendel Brantley and fiancé, Sheila of Bossier City, LA; daughters Teresa Reagan Poole of West Monroe, La, Leesa B. Taylor and Dent of Farmerville, La., Loree B. Towns and David of West Monroe, La., Jennifer Brantley and fiance' Ted of West Monroe, La.; grandchildren, Carey Brantley, Heather Weaver, Wade Brantley, Steve Reagan, Emily Kemp, Becky Thompson, Ree Anderson, Josh Taylor, Austin and Ethan Towns, Sarah and Drew Brantley, Abigail and Blake Hancock; great grandchildren, Brooklyn and Bridgette Tucker, Emma Brantley, Logan and Kayla Weaver, S.J. Reagan, Will Morris and Jo Thompson. "Papa Joe" is also survived by his cherished hound, McKenzie. The family would like to express their sincerest appreciation to "Papa Joe's" caregivers, Tosha Dean and Constance Loyd.
