BRIDGES Services for Mr. Richard Earl Bridges, 81, of Downsville will be held at 10:00 AM Wednesday, October 8, 2014 at Mt. Ararat Baptist Church with Bro. Tuck Roberts officiating. Interment will be in Mars Hill Cemetery under the direction of Farrar Funeral Home in Farmerville. Richard, a retired farmer, passed away on October 6, 2014 at St. Francis Medical Center. Preceding him in death were his parents, Alvin and Vivian Bridges; his brother, Leonard Bridges; two sisters, Ouida Bridges Owens and Peggy Bridges Dison; his wife, Jo Beth Bridges; and his daughter, Alice Bridges. He is survived by his son, Ben Bridges and wife, Ashley of Downsville, along with his grandchildren, Jacob, Caleb, Anna Claire, and Laura Beth; 2 "self- adopted" sons, Curt Dean and Mark Terral; a sister, Mary Ann Weeks and her husband, Jurd; a sister-in-law, Glynda Faye Bridges Pardue and her husband, Jim; a brother-in-law, Ken Dison; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Pallbearers will be Jason Bridges, Joe Bridges, Scott Owens, Shane McCarty, Bob Riser and Bobby Taylor. Richard grew up in Holmesville and attended school in Farmerville. He dedicated 4 years of his life to the United States Air Force serving in the Korean War. He married his childhood sweetheart in January of 1957. He was a member of Mt. Ararat Baptist Church where he served as a deacon for many years. Richard was well known for his quality hay and cattle production. He enjoyed playing baseball as a child, but took just as much pleasure in watching his grandchildren play ball. Visitation will be 5:00-8:00 PM Tuesday at Farrar Funeral Home. The family wishes to express their appreciation to the 6th Floor nurses and CNAs at St. Francis Medical Center where he spent his last weeks. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to Louisiana Baptist Children's Home, the Louisiana Methodist Children's Home or Mars Hill Cemetery Fund.
