She passed away Wednesday, February 11, 2015, in Baton Rouge. Sue graduated from Wolfe City High School where she was active on the girls' basketball team and voted class favorite. She sang in the church choir with her mother at about age 13. Sue graduated from the University of Texas in 1953 obtaining a BA in Drama and was chosen "Miss Austin, Texas" in 1953. She met her husband to be in Yellowstone National Park in 1954 on a blind date. She remembered waiting at the bottom of a mountain at night for Johne to return from a climb with her and a friend and the bears. They were married in 1954 in Wolfe City. While Johne was in the Navy they traveled the country. After Johne's military service, they moved to Jackson, MS, then to Baton Rouge, and back to Monroe for the next 50 years. They returned to Baton Rouge recently to be near her sons and daughters in law and four wonderful grandsons. She was active in the Little Theater for 50 years playing roles or being back stage in over a hundred plays including "On Golden Pond", "Cat On A Hot Tin Roof", "A Little Family Business", "Cactus Flower" "Mame" twice, and "Six Rooms River View". She served as past president of the Little Theater and received a life time award from the theater she loved so much. Sue helped form and participated in the Reading Theater, and sang in the church choir at First United Methodist Church, Monroe until the last couple of years. She supported ULM's football, basketball, baseball and drama department. She loved baseball and followed Johne and the Monroe Allstars Teams everywhere. She kept an impeccable scorebook for each of her son's games for postgame analysis with Johne and her sons. Sue is survived by her husband of 60 years, Johne Brooks; two sons, Aaron (married to Kim) and Russell "Rusty" (married to Angela); four grandsons, Johne Nicholas, Josh, William and Sean, a sister, Willdene Rowland. She is preceded in death by her parents, Willie and Hubert Henslee, a sister, Elna, and a brother, Lowell. Visitation will be at First United Methodist Church, Monroe, Friday, February, 13, 2015 from 1:00 pm until 3:00 pm with a memorial service at 3:00 pm.
