Sunday July 24, 2016 in the chapel of Mulhearn Funeral Home in West Monroe, LA with Rev. Everett Geis officiating. Interment will be at Mt. Vernon Baptist Church Cemetery. Mr. Brooks died July 21, 2016 peacefully at his residence surrounded by his family. He was preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Mrs. Benda Brooks, his grandparents who raised him, Homer and Susie Brooks, brothers, Charles and Roy Brooks, and brother-in-law, James Adair. Ben was a member of Mt. Vernon Baptist Church in West Monroe. He was a graduate of Neville High School, where he played football. He was a United States Army Veteran serving in the Korean War. He was a member of the Rebel Lunch Bunch, Graphic Packaging Old Geezers Club, Lady Techsters Tip Off Club, and the Woodlawn Riding Club. Ben was an avid supporter of West Monroe High School football, baseball, basketball and boy's powerlifting. Survivors: Sons, John Kenneth Brooks and wife, Linda and Mark Steven Brooks and wife, Jamie; Daughter, Bonnie Brooks; Grandsons, Benjamin Carter Brooks and wife, Meredith, John Brandon Brooks, J. Tyler Brooks, Dustin Cleveland Brooks; Great Granddaughters, Avarie Elyse Brooks and Isabella Grace Brooks; 3 Sisters, Mary Ola Adair, Janie Hattaway, and Bettye Cox; and several nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be his grandsons, Benjamin, Brandon, Tyler and Dustin Brooks, Randy Lambert, Larry Rutledge, Bobby Lemoine, Frank Adams, David Pylant, D. J. Owen, Kenneth "Jr" Childress and Bob Nash. Honorary Pallbearers will be members of the Rebel Lunch Bunch, Graphic Packaging Old Geezers Club, and Dr. Warren Daniel. Visitation will be from 5:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. Saturday at Mulhearn Funeral Home in West Monroe, LA. The family would like to give special thanks to GRMC 4th floor North, the skilled care nursing staff, and especially Pat Handy, Dr. Warren Daniel, and Dr. Floyd Jones.
