Funeral services for Eli Brown, Jr., 85, of Winnsboro, Louisiana will be held at 11 AM Friday, January 8, 2016 at True Light Baptist Church, Winnsboro, with Rev. Deacue Fields officiating. Interment will follow at the Northeast Louisiana Veterans Cemetery in Rayville, LA, under the direction of Richardson and Sims Funeral Home. Mr. Brown died Saturday, January 2, 2016 following a lengthy illness. Mr. Brown, a native of Richland Parish, was a graduate of Franklin Parish Training School and Grambling State University. He received his Master's Degree Plus 30 from Northeast Louisiana University. Mr. Brown was an educator in the Franklin Parish School System for 33 years, having taught at Waverly High School, Fort Necessity High School, and Winnsboro Junior High School. An avid farmer, Mr. Brown also farmed for many years in the Baskin community of Franklin Parish. Mr. Brown was preceded in death by his parents, Eli and Mariah Brown; and his sister, Sarah B. Norwood. He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Wright Brown, of Winnsboro; three children, Dr. Eli L. Brown of Birmingham, AL, Selwyn D. Brown of Cincinnati, OH, and Dr. Karol L. Brown-Carson of Dallas, TX; six grandchildren, Ashley Scott of Madison, AL, Elliot Brown of Birmingham, AL and Aaron, Brandon, Katelyn, and Madison Brown, all of Cincinnati, OH. He leaves to mourn four sisters, Rebecca Singleton and Marria B. Fields of Winnsboro, and Frances Berry and Fannie Thomas of Monroe, LA; four brothers, John Wade Brown, Calvin Brown, and Louis Brown of Winnsboro, and Howard Roy Brown of Monroe, LA; three step-sisters, Mordessa Corbin of Gilbert, Imogene Harris and Nettie Griffin of Winnsboro; and one step-brother, Andrew Richardson of Winnsboro. Pallbearers will include Keith Berry, Gregory Brown, Reginald Brown, Adolphus Carson, Deacue Fields III, Kenneth Holmes, Michael Miller, Bruce Norwood, and Ervin Norwood. Visitation will be 10 AM - 4 PM at Richardson and Sims Funeral Home and wake services will be from 5:00 - 7:00 PM on Thursday, January 7 at True Light Baptist Church, Winnsboro.
