BRYANT Rev. Roosevelt Bryant Jr., a native of New Orleans, a 38-year resident of Grambling, La., passed away on Friday January 3, in Columbus, Ohio. He was 74 years old. Having received his elementary and secondary education in New Orleans schools, he attended Dillard University (B.A); Wayne State University (M.Ed.); Union Baptist Theological Seminary and the Institute for Evangelism and Church Growth (Honorary D.D.); Central Mississippi College (Honorary L.L.D.). He prepared himself for his calling through study at New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary and Morris College School of Religion, Sumpter, South Carolina. He received his certification in Supervision and Administration at Louisiana Tech University. His experiences as pastor and teacher-administrator include Metropolitan and the Little Zion Baptist Churches, New Orleans; the Mayflower Institutional Missionary Baptist Church, Detroit; New Rocky Valley Baptist Church, Grambling; Pleasant Grove Missionary Baptist Church, Jonesboro; Orleans, Ouachita, Jackson, and Bienville Parish Schools; Detroit Public Schools; Project Upward Bound, Grambling State University. A leader by example, he served in numerous religious and civic capacities including President, North Louisiana Baptist Association, Vice-President, Northwest Region of the Greater Louisiana Baptist State Convention, Vice-President, Liberty Hill Congress of Christian Education, Bible Teacher, Liberty Hill Baptist District Association, Dean, Louisiana Baptist State Convention Congress of Christian Education, Treasurer, Louisiana Baptist State Convention Youth Encampment, NAACP, Councilman, City of Grambling. Answering the call of his country, he also served in the United States Air Force. Church members, relatives and friends are invited to his wake service from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, January 15, 2014 at the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, Parish Road 405, Jonesboro, La. Home-going services will be at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, January 16 at the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, Jonesboro with Rev. Brandon Marshall, Dothan, Alabama, officiating. Interment will follow in Memorial Garden, Grambling, La., under the direction of Paradise Funeral Home of Jonesboro. Rev. Bryant is survived by his beloved wife Emma Jean Cannon Bryant; two children, Phara Nicole Fondren (Myrick) Nashville, TN and Dr. Roosevelt Bryant III, M.D. (Laurie) Cincinnati, OH; two grandchildren, Roosevelt IV and Lauren Kennedy; one sister, Rose McCray (Ruston).
