BUIE Gill First National Funeral Home, Winnsboro, LA Funeral services for Charles W. Buie, 74, of Fort Necessity will be held at 2:00 PM Tuesday, September 22, 2009 in Gill First National Funeral Home Chapel in Winnsboro. Interment will follow in Buie Cemetery in Fort Necessity with Rev. Stewart Sherman and Rev. Rex Barker officiating. Visitation will be Monday from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM at the funeral home. He was born to William Samuel and Marie Brower Buie on December 7, 1934 in Monroe and passed from this life Saturday, September 19, 2009 in Monroe. Mr. Buie, a lifelong resident of Fort Necessity, was the great-great grandson of Neil Buie an original settler of Franklin Parish. He attended school at Fort Necessity and graduated from Brown Military Academy as Major, the highest ranking officer of the academy. He attended NLU and graduated from LSU in 1957 with a degree in Agricultural Economics. While at LSU, he served as treasurer of Alpha Zeta honorary agriculture fraternity, vice president of Agriculture Economics Association, member of Sigma Chi fraternity, and ROTC. He later served in the U.S. Army Reserve as Staff Sergeant. As a farmer and cotton ginner, Mr. Buie was devoted to the cotton industry. He was a member of the National Cotton Council, Southern Cotton Ginners Association, Louisiana Cotton Producers Association, among others. He also served on the board of directors of First South Production Credit Corporation since 1977 and the board of directors of Franklin Cotton Warehouse where he held the office of treasurer. He is survived by his wife, Pat Hoffman Buie of Fort Necessity; daughter, Bonnie Buie Ritchie of Gilbert; grandchildren, Jordan Ritchie, Cassidy Ritchie, Mark Liles, Mason Liles, Michael Liles, Ainsley Liles and a new granddaughter born on Friday; step children, Allison Killingsworth, Mark Liles, and A.C. Liles, III; sister, Harriet Johnston of Dallas, and cousin, Dr. Jimmie Y. Buie of Lafayette. Pallbearers will be Gary Killingsworth, Myles Kiper, Mark Liles, Mason Liles, Michael Liles, and Kyle Peoples. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Boyce Stone, Bobby Wooldridge and Board of Franklin Cotton Warehouse.
