Wilfred Burgess, Jr. and Bro. William Burgess officiating. Interment will follow in the Gwin Cemetery, Mangham, LA under the direction of Brown-Holley Funeral Home, Rayville. Wilfred Earl was born August 11, 1940 in Archibald, LA and passed away Tuesday, May 6, 2014 in Archibald, LA. Wilfred Earl is preceded in death by his parents, Bud and Hazel Burgess and wife, Joanne Burgess. Wilfred Earl served in the US Army and loved history, especially the Civil War. One of the proud moments in his life was winning the State High School Football Championship in Mangham in 1956. He was influenced by Godly people and decided to become a minister. He attended Sunset School of Preaching in Lubbock, TX. He graduated and entered the mission field and established churches in Barreiro, Portugal in 1970. He traveled the world, went to the Holy Land in the early 1970's and a Polish Aid trip with the White's Ferry Road in early 1980's. He got to see most of Europe, British Isles, Africa, China, Indonesia, and other areas in the Orient. He returned in 1973 and was the minister at the Church of Christ in Archibald, Newellton, Cotton Valley, and Delhi and most recently helped out at Central Church of Christ in Bastrop. He filled in at many churches throughout LA, AR, and OK. Wilfred Earl also sold antiques, did furniture refinishing, car sales and an auction business. He loved his family, his family loved him, and his friends loved him too. Survivors include his children, William Earl Burgess and wife, Janelle of West Monroe, Wilfred "Cricket" Burgess, Jr. and wife, Carlie of West Monroe, and Elizabeth Ann Lowry of Archibald; grandchildren, Kristi Burgess, Katie Curtis, Ryan Burgess, Alan Burgess, John Burgess, and Whitney Alonso; great grandchildren, Adabelle, Ty, Cason, Sofia, Harper, and Brayden; siblings, Mary Watson, Sybil Brown, Marie Clark, and Tommy Burgess; and a host of nieces and nephews. Pallbearers are Ken McKay, James Hendrix, Ronnie Kellie, Jessie Shiers, Shelton Sharbono, Buddy Frost, Grant Hill, and Floyd Swain. Visitation is 5:00 PM - 8:00 PM, Thursday at the Archibald Church of Christ.
