Rev. Mark Fenn will officiate. Interment will follow at Hasley Cemetery West Monroe, LA under the direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Home West Monroe, LA. Mrs. Burrows died March 30, 2009 at Spanish Oaks Hospice, Savannah, Georgia, following a brief illness. She was born April 13, 1911 in the Bethlehem community in Upshur County, Texas. She was preceded in death by her mother and father, Hallie Virginia Dunbar Rash and William Gideon Joshua Rash and her sisters and brothers, Dessie Lora Rash Croley, Vesta Bernice Rash Wilson, Milton Leonard Rash, and Junius William Rash. Orphaned at an early age, she was raised by her paternal aunt and uncle, Connie Rash Porter and Jim Porter. She married Frank Bradley Pettit on Christmas Eve, December 24, 1927 in Newsum, Texas. They moved from Texas to West Monroe, Louisiana, where Frank became the manager of the Cooperative Dairy of Monroe, LA. Later she and Frank built and for many years operated the E & P Supermarket on Natchitoches St. in West Monroe and also formed Pettit Realty Company with Frank as broker and Lorris as sales agent. After Frank's death in 1968, Lorris was licensed as a broker and continued to successfully operate Pettit Realty until her retirement. After she retired she married William Beach (Bill) Burrows in 1992. They were married for only five years when Bill died from cancer in 1997. Lorris was a long-time member of the First Baptist Church of West Monroe and had served as president of the Keenagers Club and was active in Sunday School, BTU, WMU and past leader of the Hattie Strouther Night Circle. She was also an active member of the Monroe- West Monroe Board of Realtors and was a past president of the Women's Council of Real Estate. In May 1973 she was awarded a citation in recognition of her outstanding contribution to the growth and prosperity of the community through her continued service and support of the Board of Realtors. Lorris is survived by her daughter Maxine Pettit Harris and son-in-law Richard J. Harris of Savannah, GA, three grandchildren: Lydia Dean Pilcher and her husband Mark Friedberg of New York City, Martha Claire Pilcher and her husband Sher Mohammed of Ajmer, Rajasthan, India, and Jay Bradley Pilcher and his wife Linda Blair of Mableton, GA, five great-grandchildren: Oakley Dean Friedberg, Lucy Dean Friedberg, Shemsher Taj Mohammed, Azumad Jasmine Mohammed and Saif Ratan Mohammed, and many nephews and nieces. Visitation will be held from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM Saturday, April 4, at Kilpatrick Funeral Home, West Monroe and Sunday from 1:00 PM until service time at the church.
