Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Gardens, Calhoun, LA. Officiating will be Bro. Eddy Shoemaker. Joe was born January 21, 1934 in Leton, LA and passed away August 18, 2016 surrounded by his loving family. Joe was a resident of Landmark Nursing and Rehab Center, where he received excellent care. Joe is preceded in death by his first wife Adelia Young Burton, mother of their four children; his parents James Lee Burton and Lucy Mae Mills Hodges; numerous brothers and sisters. Joe is survived by his wife Betty; two sons, Danny Burton, Carl Burton and wife Ruby; two daughters; Susie Carter and husband Billy, Lisa Hurt and husband Billy; two sisters, Evelyn Bamburg and husband Glen, and Daisy Wall and husband J.P.; step-children Carolyn Mims and husband Steven, April Riley, Danny Riley and wife Pam, Jerry Riley and wife Cara; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Joe was a Sheet Metal Journeyman most of his adult life and retired early. Joe played music most of his life and has played for the Wildwood Express, The Dixie Jamboree, Lincoln Opry, VFW and at local churches and nursing homes. His band opened a concert for Mel Tillis, and he performed with Ace Cannon and Linda Davis. He was always ready to help with fund raisers for a good cause. He was a loving husband, father, paw-paw and great paw-paw. Joe will be missed by all who knew him. Pallbearers will be Nathan Johnson, Dusty Burton, Alex Burton, Joseph Burton, Don Hatten and Steve Hatten. Honorary pallbearers will be the members of the "Joe Burton Band" who, with their love and kindness kept him going when he was growing tired, John Copes, F.P. "Doc" Cobb, Ed Matthews and Bert Wiggins. Visitation will be held Friday, August 19, 2016 from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM at Kilpatrick Funeral Home West Monroe.
