BYRD, JR. Mulhearn Funeral Home Sterlington Road, Monroe, LA Funeral services for Dr. David S. Byrd, Jr., 79, of Monroe, LA will be held at 2:00 PM Sunday, July 19, 2009 in the chapel of Mulhearn Funeral Home, Sterlington Road, Monroe with Dr. Whit Holmes officiating. Interment will follow at Mulhearn Memorial Park Mausoleum. Dr. Byrd passed away Friday, July 17, 2009. He was a member and deacon of Parkview Baptist Church, where he taught Sunday School for forty years. He was a retired Chemistry Professor from the University of Louisiana at Monroe (NLU), where he taught for thirty- one years. He was a member of the Gideons International for twenty-three years. He was preceded in death by his parents, David, Sr. and Vivian Byrd. Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Julia V. Byrd; daughters, Janie Redding and husband Jerry of West Monroe, LA and Barbara Hampton and husband Clark Randall Hampton of Roswell, GA; granddaughters, Leigh Hampton, Allison Redding, and Greer Hampton; brother, John Ben Byrd of Jacksonville, AR; several nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be Robert Havard, David Tyler, Rick Busher, John White, Ivy R. Redding, and Bill Hampton. Honorary pallbearers will be the members of Dr. Byrd's Sunday School Class. Visitation will be from 1:00 PM until 2:00 PM Sunday, July 19, 2009 at Mulhearn Funeral Home, Sterlington Road, Monroe. The family would like to thank Dr. Floyd Jones, Dr. P. Thomas Causey, Dr. Charles B. Joyce, Dr. Thomas Gulick, the staff of Landmark Nursing Home, and Southern Care Hospice for their loving care.
