Memorial services will be held on Saturday, May 12, at 11:00 AM, at Trinity United Methodist Church in Ruston, Louisiana and will be followed by lunch in Fellowship Hall. A native of Lafayette, Byrnside was a Ruston resident for over 60 years. As a student at Louisiana Tech University, he was a member of the football and track teams, Kappa Sigma social fraternity, and Delta Sigma Pi professional business fraternity. After graduation from the College of Administration and Business in 1952, he served three years in the United States Army and, upon discharge, worked as a sales representative in Shreveport. Byrnside returned to Louisiana Tech in 1960 as Assistant Business Manager. In 1972, he was named Vice President for Administrative Affairs, a position he held for twenty-five years until his retirement in 1997. Upon retirement, he was named Vice President Emeritus. Byrnside joined the staff of Ruston Mayor Dan Hollingsworth in 1999 and served in that role until 2009. He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, where he served on the Board of Trustees, Endowments Committee and the Church Council. He was past president of Ruston Rotary Club, served on the Board of Directors of the Ruston-Lincoln Parish Chamber of Commerce and the Lincoln Parish Library. Byrnside was recognized as Alumnus of the Year by Tech's College of Administration and Business in 1993. George Byrnside was predeceased in death by his wife of 54 years, Patricia Hudson Byrnside, his parents David S. Byrnside and Alma Risinger Byrnside, brother David S. Byrnside, Jr. Survivors include daughter Beverly Byrnside Floyd and husband Tim Floyd of El Paso, Texas, daughter Susan Byrnside Stringer and husband LaRay of Mandeville, La., daughter Rebecca Byrnside McFarland and husband Mike of Long Valley, New Jersey, grandchildren Shannon Floyd Hillenmeyer and husband Hunter of Winnetka, Illinois, Jessica Stringer of Mandeville, La. and Hudson and Anna McFarland of Long Valley, New Jersey. He has a great granddaughter, Harper Hillenmeyer of Winnetka, Illinois. The family wishes to thank loving caregiver Keisha Simmons and to acknowledge cockapoo Dixie for being such a faithful companion. We also want to thank the doctors, nurses and staff of Morristown Memorial Hospital and St. James Care Center in New Jersey for the excellent medical care they provided.
