All rights reserved. http://usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://usgwarchives.net/la/lafiles.htm ********************************************** From the March 12, 1948 Winnfield News-American "Bootsie" Bernstein Dies Monday in Monroe Hospital Well Known Local Man Was Ill Only For Brief Period Funeral services were held in Monroe at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday for Rudolph "Bootsie" Bernstein, 76, well known Monroe and Winnfield man, who died in a Monroe hospital shortly before noon Monday following a short illness. Rites were conducted in the Hixon Brothers Funeral Home chapel by Rabbi F. K. Hirsch, and interment was in the Jewish Cemetery. Mr. Bernstein was a brother of Miss Nettie Bernstein of Winnfield, with whom he had resided for the past several years. He is survived by an only daughter, Mrs. Maurice Roby, of Newelton; a grandson, Irving P. Roby; a niece, Mrs. F. M. "Bill" Goldsmith; and two nephews, A. Milling Bernstein and Henry Bernstein, Jr., all of Monroe. The late Arnold Bernstein of Monroe was a brother. Mr. Bernstein was for many years claims agent for the Missouri Pacific Railroad lines, and was retired on a pension about five years ago. At the time of his retirement he was given a big party in the Virginia Hotel in Monroe. He was a familiar figure in Winnfield, where his family had been well known for many years. he had been in the hospital only a short time before his death and, although his condition was known to be serious, the announcement of his passing came as a surprise and a shock to his many friends. Pallbearers included Alvin Hahn, Jack Wallace, and Ben Sharkey of Winnfield; Max Roby of Jonesboro, and Allen Sugar, Bill Therman, W. G. Miller and Fred Pettit, all of Monroe.
