CAMP Mulhearn Funeral Home Sterlington Road Monroe, LA Memorial services for Mr. Jon G. Camp, 74, of Monroe, LA will be held at 2:00 P.M. Tuesday, September 30, 2008 at the Mausoleum Chapel at Mulhearn Memorial Park Cemetery. Interment will follow at Mulhearn Memorial Park Cemetery. Mr. Camp's death occurred Friday, September 26, 2008 at St. Francis North Hospital. He was a well-known educator whose career ranged from music education to computer science at the elementary, secondary, and collegiate levels. Prior to his retirement in 2003, he served as an instructor in Computer Science with the College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Louisiana at Monroe. Early in his career, Mr. Camp served as the Director of Emergency Services for the Department of Health and Hospitals. As a veteran of the Korean War, Mr. Camp was a featured clarinetist with the Air Force Band stationed in Japan. Mr. Camp's varied and distinguished accomplishments have allowed him to excel as a ceramic artist, musician, composer, writer, and computer scientist. But, the most important focus of his career, regardless of the subject, was teaching. In his own words, there is an "established pattern of my life which is to teach and train while pursuing my art." He was preceded in death by his father, Gus Camp, and his mother, Mary Summerlin Orr. Survivors include his wife of forty-seven years, Joy Joyner Camp of Monroe; sons, Jon Tyran Camp of Panama City, FL and Joffry Lee Camp and wife Julia of Milton, FL; daughter, Margette Reid and husband Michael of Denton, TX; grandson, Charles Michael Reid of Denton, TX; sister, Tezalee Crump and husband J.W. of Ball, LA; mother-in-law, Monia Joyner of Mangham, LA; brother- in-law, Dr. Lee Roy Joyner, Jr. of Bogalusa, LA; sister-in-law, Mary Margaret Barclift of Ellisville, MI. Visitation will be from 6:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. Monday, September 29, 2008 at Mulhearn Funeral Home, Sterlington Road, Monroe, LA. A scholarship to honor Jon Camp's teaching excellence in Computer Science and dedication to his students at ULM is being established by family and friends.
