CAMP Funeral services for Ewell Camp, Jr. of West Monroe, Louisiana, will be held Thursday, September 14, 2017, at 1:30 P.M. at First Baptist Church, Calhoun. A light lunch and reception will be held from 12:30 P.M. until service time at the church. Visitation will be held from 5:00 until 7:00 PM, on Wednesday, September 13, 2017, at Kilpatrick Funeral Home, West Monroe. Interment will follow at Liberty Baptist Church Cemetery under the direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Home, West Monroe. Ewell Camp, Jr. joined his Lord on Saturday, September 9, 2017. He is survived by his wife of sixty nine years, Louise Carter Camp. He was a beloved uncle to Bert Collins, Jr. and his wife, Kay, of Crossett, Arkansas; Ann Nelson and her husband, Jim, of Bethesda, Maryland; and Larraine Lewis and her husband, David, of Plano, Texas. Ewell was also a loving cousin to Roger Camp and his wife, Pam; Jeff Camp and his wife, Debra; and John Camp and his wife, Sherry, all of Calhoun, Louisiana, as well as many other Camp cousins, too numerous to list. Born in Ouachita Parish on March 26, 1925, Ewell was the only child of Ewell and Carrie Belle Camp. Ewell was a veteran of WWII, serving in the U.S. Navy Seabees in the Southwest Pacific. Returning from the Pacific, his Liberty ship sunk in the vicinity of San Francisco and he was rescued. After serving his country, Ewell returned to West Monroe, where he met Louise Carter while she was in nursing school at St. Francis Hospital. They were married on November 15, 1947, and built a home on family land on what is now Camp Road, where they lived their entire marriage. God did not bless them with children, but they "adopted" many young people they knew, and as those people grew up and had children, they considered those their grandchildren. Ewell started his career in heavy equipment repair and later worked as a field technician for the gas industry until his retirement. Ewell was a member of the Cattlemen's Association and enjoyed raising cattle and traveling abroad with that group. He was a deacon of the First Baptist Church of Calhoun, and he epitomized Christ's command to "love your neighbor." He was known for his loving care and generosity to the many people who came into his life. Pallbearers will be Brad Camp, Jeff Camp, Roger Camp, Ronald Camp, David Lewis, Jim Nelson, Eric Harbison, and John Wallace. Honorary pallbearers are John Camp, Ryan Camp, Richard Camp, Ralph Camp, Eric Harbison, and John Wallace.
