He was born November 18, 1947, in Bastrop, Louisiana, to Eugene and Willie Freeland Canfield. Jim was a veteran of the United States Navy (1967-1970), serving with distinction as a Navy Corpsman with the First Marine Division in Vietnam. Jim was a graduate of Northeast Louisiana University and undertook graduate studies at Louisiana State University. Jim had a long career as a school psychologist with Louisiana public schools and the Louisiana Department of Education. He was instrumental in the formation of the Louisiana School Psychological Association and served as its first President. Jim is survived by his children, James Blake Canfield and wife Elizabeth, and Brittany Comeaux and her husband Jamy; his grandchildren, Audrey Canfield, Hudson, and Holland Comeaux. Graveside services will be held Friday, January 8, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at the Northeast Louisiana Veterans Cemetery in Rayville, Louisiana, with Pastor Ray Owens officiating. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to the Disabled American Veterans Charitable Service Trust or Cancer Services of Greater Baton Rouge. Arrangements by Millet-Guidry Funeral Home.
