Johnny Hankins officiating. Visitation will be at 1:00 PM, service at 2:00 PM at the Dubach First Baptist Church. She was born in Bernice, Louisiana, December 25, 1922 and died peacefully in her sleep on September 14, 2016 at Alpine Guest Care & Gamble Rehab in Ruston, Louisiana, where she had received loving and compassionate care the last years of her life. Preceded in death by her parents, Jesse James "Jim" Hollis and Blanche Gresham Hollis Butterfield, step-father, C. M. Butterfield, beloved son-in- law, Sydney Seth Tatum, beloved brother, J.J. "Buck" Hollis, Jr., father of her children, Stinson Heard, and husband, Pierre Carpenter. Wawee's survivors are daughters, Jimmye Heard McNabb (Ralph), Jo Heard Tatum, grandchildren, Syd Tatum (Brenda), Mandy McNabb Winger (Darin), Shannon Tatum Perot (Jeff), and Milly McNabb Jacobs (Dennis), great- grandchildren, Seth and Austin Tatum, Nolan, Megan and Mattie Goff, Judson and Clayton Porter, Hannah Jacobs Miller (Cody) and Caroline Jacobs, sisters, Martha Hollis Alexander and Helen Hollis Hall, several nieces, nephews and cousins. Wawee was the last survivor of Bernice High School Class of 1939, attended Louisiana Tech University and later attended cosmetology school. She operated her own beauty shop in Bernice and traveled as a consultant for Alberto Culver Company. Wawee was an accomplished seamstress, loved to backpack, and camp. She was a competitive silhouette shooter, winning local, state and national awards. Houston, Texas was her home for many years before moving to Lake D'Arbonne. She discovered and loved the Lady Techsters and Leon Barmore, becoming their most avid fan! She loved participating in the Union Parish Council on Aging Senior Games, winning many awards, local, state, and national in cycling. She also drove "old" people to their doctor's appointments for several years for UPCA. In 2001 Wawee moved to Dubach and became a member of Dubach United Methodist Church. Wawee was fortunate to have traveled extensively; all fifty states, South America, killed a hippopotamus in Africa, a mission trip to Spain and all points in between, living life to the fullest. Wawee created a life rich not only in years but also in love given and received. All who knew her will remember her indomitable spirit and unwavering commitment to her family and friends.
