She was the daughter of the late John R. Humble and Louise Littlepage Humble of Monroe, LA. She was a 1942 graduate of Ouachita Parish High School in Monroe, LA and received a BS degree in Mathematics in 1945 from Louisiana Tech in Ruston, LA. She also attended Georgetown University in Washington, D.C. Upon graduation, she married Charles B. Carter of Ruston, LA. Moving more than thirty times as a result of transfers with the DuPont Company, Elizabeth managed to raise three children and taught mathematics in high schools in Seaford, DE, Waynesboro, VA, and Chattanooga, TN. After retirement, the couple enjoyed traveling throughout the world by ship. Elizabeth was an accomplished seamstress. She also enjoyed crafts, playing bridge, and rooting for her favorite baseball team, the Atlanta Braves. In the last year of her life, she moved to Dover from Ashville, NC to be closer to her daughter. She will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved her so very much. She is survived by her husband of sixty-four years, Charles B. Carter, Sr., a resident at the Northeast Louisiana War Veterans Home in Monroe, LA; her daughter, Beverly C. Williams of Dover, DE; two grandsons, Sean and Christopher Strehle; and two great grandchildren, Cody Strehle and Riley Minner; by her son, Charles B. Carter, Jr. (Kay) of Roanoke, VA; and two grandchildren, C.J. Carter of San Francisco, CA and Kayse L. Carter of Roanoke, VA. Her youngest child, J John R. Carter, preceded her in death on January 18, 2009. She is the sister of Graham L. Humble of Monroe and John R. Humble of Bellingham, WA. She was the aunt of Dr. Joseph Humble and Mrs. Mary Sue Jacka, both of Monroe, LA. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM Thursday, July 16, 2009, at the Northeast Louisiana War Veterans Home in Monroe, LA with Chaplin Charles Hood officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations in her memory to the Delaware Hospice (www.delawarehospice.org).
