CARTER Funeral services for Jerry T. Carter, Sr., 81, of Monroe, will be held at 2:00 PM, Wednesday, March 25, 2015, in the Chapel of Mulhearn Funeral Home, Sterlington Road, Monroe, with Dr. Tim Nuestifter officiating. Interment will follow in Mulhearn Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Mulhearn Funeral Home. Mr. Carter was born September 17, 1933, in Monroe and passed away March 22, 2015, in Monroe following a brief illness. He was preceded in death by his parents, L.H. and Myrtle Carter and brother, W. Dean Carter. Mr. Carter, a graduate of Northeast Louisiana University, was actively engaged in the real estate industry for over 35 years until his retirement with Carter Realty, Inc. He held various positions with the Board of Realtors and both the State and National Association of Realtors. As past president of the Board of Realtors, he was instrumental in the formation of the Multiple Listing Service, board library, and the purchase of its first office building. He also served as a senior instructor for the National Association of Realtors, teaching professional classes throughout the United States and Canada. Mr. Carter was an active member and leader of various civic, fraternal, and service organizations including past Master of the Dee A. Strickland Lodge No. 465, past member of the Monroe Police & Fireman's Civil Service Board, ULM Booster Club, Co-Chairman of Monroe's first Christmas Festival, and St. Paul's United Methodist Church as member, usher, and 4 years as chairman of the Board of Trustees. He served 4 years in the United States Air Force as an instructor of air force radar equipment and flight simulator proficiency. Survivors include his wife, Carolyn Herpin Carter; two sons, Steven Wayne Carter and wife Laura of Hernando, Florida and Jerry T. Carter, Jr. (J.T.) of Houston, Texas. Pallbearers will be Burl McGee, Glen Jordan, Ray Mohler, Pat McDonald, Lee Hairston, and Buddy Smitherman. Honorary pallbearers are Bing Bishop, Larry Rogers, Raymond Stewart, and the members of the Dee A. Strickland Lodge. Visitation will be from 5:00 until 7:00 PM on Tuesday, March 24, 2015, at Mulhearn Funeral Home, Sterlington Road, Monroe. Memorials may be made to the Shriner's Hospital for Crippled Children, 3100 Samford Avenue, Shreveport, LA 71103 or a charity of your choice .
