Born in West Monroe, Steve is a graduate of WMHS, Class of '61. He earned a BS in Zoology from LSU, and in 1969, received his MS in Parasitology at NLU. He then went to the University of Cincinnati, Ohio, and completed his Ph.D in Parasitology and Ecology. He taught as a Postdoctoral Fellow at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, TN, and did research in Parasitology and Tropical Medicine for thirteen years. Steve attended LSU School of Medicine in Shreveport, LA. and earned his MD in 1994. He followed by completing his Residency in Psychiatry at LSUHSC- Shreveport, and practiced General Psychiatry in the Monroe area. Steve grew up attending the First Baptist Church of West Monroe where he continued to worship upon his return to West Monroe. After becoming quite ill in late 2013, he retired from his medical practice in January, 2014. Steve is preceded in death by his parents Ollie and Lillian Brunson Carter. Surviving him is his sister, Betty Carter Peterson and her husband, John, of Ormond Beach, FL. He is also survived by his close first cousins, Dianne Carter Mears and Judy Carter McIntosch, who reside with their families in the West Monroe area. Steve will be greatly missed by his family and friends. A funeral service will be held at Kilpatrick Funeral Home, in West Monroe, on Wednesday, January 20, 2016 at 1:00 PM with Dr. Woods Watson officiating. A visitation will be held prior to the service from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM. Following the service, the burial ceremony will take place at the Hasley Cemetery.
