He passed away on April 16, 2015, at St. Francis Hospital in Monroe, LA from a brief illness after a seventeen year battle with complications stemming from cancer. J.D. or David as he was known in his early years, was involved with trucks and heavy equipment all his life. He bought his first truck at age sixteen. He worked for Pelican Trucking & Snelling Pipeline in Shreveport. During the 1960's he returned to Lincoln Parish and worked as a car truck salesman at Ford dealerships in Homer and Ruston for 20 years. In 1983, he formed J.D. Caver & Co., Inc., a trucking company, which he owned for 28 years until he retired in 2011. His work was his hobby but he had a passion for all types of racing. NASCAR was his favorite and he was able to attend several Daytona 500's as well as other tracks, before his health prevented him from traveling. He is survived by his wife, Patsy Foster Caver of Ruston, his son Mark Caver of Lafayette, his step-daughter Kelly Martin of Ruston. Grandchildren are Ginger Caver Kennedy and husband Tim of Austin, TX, Jennifer Caver-Johns & husband Chris Johns of Bossier City, LA, April Caver Picou & husband Phillip of Arcadia, & Beau Ryan Caver of Lafayette. Step-grandchildren are Rachel Martin Guy & husband Darrell of Fort Mill, SC & Ryan Martin of New Orleans, LA. Great- grandchildren, Hunter Caver, Colton Caver, Rollo Kennedy & Charlie Guy. He is also survived by two sisters, Katie Woodard of Arcadia & Maxine Kilpatrick of Athens, his first wife Claire Tubbs Caver of Dubach and brothers-in-law James "Sonny" Foster and wife Donna of Dubach and Gene Foster and wife Dianne of Dubach. He is preceded in death by his parents, Guin and Mary Caver, his son Gregory Caver, sister Edell Williams, brothers Fred Caver, Milton Caver, Stacey Caver & Clyde Caver. Services will be held on Saturday, April 18, 2015, at 3:00 P.M. at Kilpatrick Funeral Home in Ruston. Visitation will be held at 2:00 P.M. till time of service. Burial will follow at Harmony Chapel cemetery near Hico, LA. Serving as pallbearers will be Erick Kilpatrick, Randy Kilpatrick, Curtis Tubbs, Phillip Picou, Kenny Merchant and James "Buster" Brewster. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Harmony Chapel Cemetery Association, 2135 Hwy.545, Dubach, LA. 71235, or to the charity of the donor's choice .
