Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Thursday, January 17, 2013 at Crossroads Fellowship Church, Raleigh, NC Family visitation was held at Hall-Wynne Funeral Home Wednesday evening. Mrs. Chelette was born February 19, 1948 in Monroe, La. She graduated from Neville High School and attended Centenary College in Shreveport, La. but home had been 40+ years in Durham and Raleigh, North Carolina. She was a Certified Public Accountant, and was the Senior Business Services Manager with the Durham Police Department, having been there since 2002. Prior to that she had been the Senior Accountant, Financial Department with the City of Durham. and the Accountant for Endowments at North Carolina Central University. She was a 1993 graduate in Business Administration with concentration in Accounting, Summa Cum Laude. She was an articulate and tireless worker and a professional visionary who led, encouraged and possessed a high level of integrity in all areas of her work. The loves of her life were without a doubt her two daughters, son-in-law and four granddaughters, Jennifer and Darren Maness of Raleigh, NC(Sarah and Kate) and Lauren Gordon of Winter Garden, Florida (Natalie and Caroline) and her beloved sister, Carol Wroten of Houston, Texas. Other survivors include Ashley and Doug Naylor (Grace, Isabelle, Isaiah) of Friendswood, Texas and Evans and Melissa Wroten of Winston Salem, North Carolina, E.J. and Laurie (Slakter) Ratcliff (Lauren and Lindsay Abshier) of Monroe, LA, Tommy and Lisa (Slakter) Bernard (Hannah and Lexie Jones) of Nashville, TN, and Mickey and Becky DuBos (Shelby and Ben) of West Monroe, La. Her loving extended family were her co- workers at the Durham Police Department in Durham, North Carolina, who she thought the world of. Her other circle of friends included members of Crossroads Fellowship Church in Raleigh where she was a member. Her leisure time was spent in nature, as an avid gardner and bird watcher, anything in the outdoors as well as traveling was high on her interest list, as well as her love of her precious Dachshund, Hannah. Mrs. Chelette was preceeded in death by her parents Betty (Evans) and Carl Slakter, brothers Danny (Slakter) DuBos and Alan Slakter.
