Biddy was born in Monroe, LA on February 2, 1926 to William Carroll Royce and Jessie Salome Munholland Royce. She was graduated from Ouachita Parish High School in 1942 and attended Northeast Jr. College of LSU (now University of Louisiana at Monroe), graduating in 1944 and went to Louisiana Tech in Ruston, LA, graduating in 1945 with a B.A. in Education. She then taught freshman math and science at her old high school for one year, beginning in September 1945. At that time she also became engaged to her future husband, Albert H. (Al) Cloud, Jr., when he received his commission in the U.S. Navy. He was released to inactive duty in August 1946, and they were married in October 1946. They lived in Baton Rouge, LA until he graduated from LSU in January 1948, at which time they moved to Houston. In 1954, they moved to Dallas and lived there until now except for 1970-1975 when they lived in Albany, NY. Biddy was the epitome of the homemaker of our generation. She managed a "magic" house in which all household chores were completed as if by magic. She provided her husband and children the utmost support, driving carpools, participating in PTA, acting as room mother, acting as assistant Girl Scout leader and supporting their other school and athletic participation. Biddy also found time to be an active member of the CPA Wives Club of Dallas for almost 50 years, holding every office and committee chair, and of the Willow Bend Garden Club. While in Albany, she was on the board of the Visiting Nurses Association and the Albany Academy for Girls, and was president of the Academy's mothers' association. Biddy and Al enjoyed bridge, and over the years were members of several couples bridge groups, most recently the Deuces of Dallas group. She also played in her "First Wednesday" ladies bridge group. Biddy was dearly loved by all who knew her. Her spontaneous, unaffected laugh was contagious and a joy to anyone who heard it. In later years, Biddy and Al enjoyed traveling throughout North America, the British Isles, Scandinavia and Europe, principally with other bridge group couples and with couples forming the Red and White Express from their high school "corner group". Biddy and Al were past members of the Northridge, the Preston Hollow, and the John Calvin Presbyterian Churches of Dallas, and the Newtonville United Methodist Church of Albany, NY. Her illness has prevented her from active church attendance in recent years, but her faith in the Lord never faltered. Biddy is survived by her husband Al; their children, Susan Cloud Gross of Annapolis, Dr. Robert Cloud of Dallas and Patricia Cloud Macmanus of Dallas and their spouses; sister; Carolyn Marshall and by ten grandchildren and stepgrandchildren: Mara Alissa Gross Archer, Max Gross, Ashley Cloud Dugan, Tyler Cloud, Zach Harvey, Mark Macmanus, Amanda Macmanus, Kyle Humke, Cory Lignell and Erik Lignell. Visitation for friends and relatives will be from 6:00 until 8:00 PM, at Restland Funeral Home in Dallas on Friday, February 13, 2009. Funeral services for friends and relatives will be held at Restland at 1:00 PM with Dr. Hal Habecker officiating, on Saturday, February 14, 2009 following a private graveside burial for her family. Pallbearers are her son and Max Gross, Tyler Cloud, Zach Harvey, Mark Macmanus and Kyle Humke. Honorary pallbearers are the husbands of the Deuces of Dallas Bridge Club. If desired, in lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the PVN Foundation, 8600 Skyline Drive, Dallas, TX 75243.
