Jerry Grant officiating, Interment will follow 2:30 P.M., at Forest Lawn Memorial in Ruston, LA. The family will receive friends at Community Memorial Funeral Home, Winnsboro, LA on Wednesday evening, August 27th from 5:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. Coach Collie passed from this life on Monday, August 25, 2014, after a journey through Alzheimer's, yet a journey that never took his smile and wit. Wyman Lee Collie was born in Sibley, Louisiana on September 28, 1929, the only son of the late William Shelby and Irene Marguerite Collie. He grew up in Ruston, Louisiana and was an outstanding, All State quarterback for Ruston High School and All Conference linebacker for Louisiana Tech University having played under Coaches Hoss Garrett and Joe Aillet. Wyman Lee married his high school sweetheart, Virginia Mashaw Collie in 1952. They built their life together in Gilbert, Louisiana, teaching and coaching at Gilbert High School, where the Gilbert Demons claimed the State Championship in only their fifth year of football in 1975. Coach Collie was named the head coach for the 1976 All Star Game. He also coached girls and boys basketball and track while teaching biology and serving as Assistant Principal. Upon his retirement in 1986 from GHS the football field was named in his honor. Coach served as deacon at First Baptist Church, Gilbert. After retirement Coach and Mrs. Collie enjoyed fourteen years of camping and service with the U.S. Army Corp of Engineers as campground host and hostess at Lake Greeson, Arkansas. It was at Lake Greeson where many memories were made with friends and their much loved grandchildren. His woodworking skills provided heirloom toys, including a treasured rocking horse, for his grandchildren, and now great-grandchildren. Wyman Lee Collie is survived by his wife, Virginia Collie. His children: Mike Collie and wife, Nancy of Ruston, LA; Ginger Boutwell and husband, George of Winnsboro, LA; David Collie and wife, Brenda of Winnsboro, LA; and Mark Collie of San Marcos, TX. Grandchildren: Jessica Lindsay and husband, Timothy; Ryan Collie; Bethany Collie; Sara Grace Collie; Ben Boutwell; Matthew Boutwell and wife, Jenna; Katie Herron and husband, Brock; John Boutwell and wife, Joanna; Dustin Collie and wife, Serria; and Darren Collie. Six great-grandchildren: Lillian, Chase, Harper, Alexis, Mathew, and Cameron. Pallbearers will be his grandsons and honorary pallbearers will be former Gilbert HS Demon players.
