Rev. Troy J. Dennard and The Honorable Jay B. McCallum will officiate, with Grand Master Ed Durham conducting the Masonic service, followed by interment in Crowville Masonic Cemetery. Mr. Collins, a commercial pilot and instructor, passed away Thursday, July 18, 2013 in Morehouse Parish. Ed was a U.S. Air Force veteran. After his service he opened Collins Communications in Gillette, WY and started flying in order to cover great distances to service his radio communications clients. Ed soon became an accomplished pilot and later an instructor. He began his commercial flying career with Antelope Airlines while developing the "Collins Heights" subdivision in Gillette. Still in Gillette, he built and operated Executive Air, a full service charter business that included a flight school, and had a Piper franchise. Ed's long and distinguished flying career included some of his most enjoyable life experiences as a bush pilot in Fairbanks AK. After moving to LA, he flew with Monroe Air, Executive Air and most recently with Flying Tiger Aviation where he was a favorite instructor of many students. He was a great humanitarian serving others his entire life in many ways. He loved children and helped those less fortunate by working with the International Shriners Hospitals in Wyoming and Louisiana. Ed served as Potentate of the Barak Shrine Monroe in 2004 and worked with the Barak Shrine Circus committee for over ten years. He was active in the Monroe Scottish Rite bodies and several Masonic lodges in LA: Choudrant Lodge # 339, Ruston Lodge # 106, Dubach Lodge # 277, Etoile Polaire Lodge # 1 in New Orleans, and was presently Master of Brookville Lodge # 161, Oak Ridge, LA. He was as a member of The Eastern Star in Wyoming and Louisiana. Ed was the Director of and played the lead in over 117 productions of The Rose Upon the Altar, a drama that exemplifies the principles of Masonry. Ed was preceded in death by his parents Glenn and Elma Collins and a son, Mitchell Eugene Collins. He is survived by his wife Sannie Dewitt Harper-Collins of Dubach, LA; sons, David Glenn Collins of Dubach, LA and Mark Steven Collins of Gillette, WY; and sisters, Jamesetta Newman of Ft. Scott, KS, Glenda Inman of Nixa, MO and Jan Collins of Columbia, MO. Pallbearers: Marcus Bailey, Bill Barr, John Chennault, Will Gray, Cash Melville, Bruce Osbon Honorary Pallbearers: Gene Allen, Barry Antley, Edwards Barham, Will Cook, Cliff Hall, Randy Holstead, Roy McDuffie, Felton Vickers Visitation will be from 5-7 PM Monday, July 22, 2013 at Mulhearn Funeral Home Sterlington Road Monroe.
