She was born on July 8, 1930 to Hugh Alexander Cameron and Fannie Mae Olive in Commerce, Texas. Carol received her bachelor and Master's Degree from North Texas State University. Initially working at Sandel Library of (then) Northeast Louisiana State College, she went on to lead a successful career for the Louisiana Migrant Education program, for over 20 years. Carol was revered in this program, being asked to speak at national migrant education conferences on several occasions. She retired in 1990. Carol's love for dance allowed her the opportunity to be a member of Monroe's famous local senior tap dance troupe, The Golden Girls. She had the opportunity to perform all across Louisiana, even for Governor Buddy Roemer. Carol often spoke of the times and the memories of this special group of ladies, whom she held dear to her heart. Carol spent countless hours serving her beloved home church, Memorial United Methodist. Over four decades she did everything from teach Bible class to stirring the annual gumbo pot! Carol was an instant hit with anyone she met; over the years, hundreds of lives were touched at Memorial Church. Carol is preceded in death by her father Hugh Alexander Cameron and mother Fannie Mae Olive, sister Olive Cameron Sinclair, precious grandson John Andrew Collins, and dear niece Cindy Sinclair. She is survived by her brother, John Cameron and wife Colleen of Alamo, California; three loving children, Cameron Collins and wife Kathy of the Woodlands, TX, Ann Collins of the Woodlands, TX Stephen Collins and wife Laurie of Leesburg, TX. Affectionately referred to as "Mimi Carol", she leaves the following adoring grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who were the very lights of her life: Megan Jefcoat, husband Mitchell and two daughters, Molly Marie and Magnolia Ruth of Monroe, LA; Kelly Jackson, partner Drew Darrell and her son, Jackson Ethan Doughty of Norfolk, VA; Daniel Jackson and wife, Rebecca of Edinburg, Scotland; Austin Collins of The Woodlands, TX; Decon Collins of Leesburg, Tx; Destiny Burge of Hope, AR . A celebration of the beautiful, charming life of Carol will be held in Monroe, LA on January 31st at 10:30am at Memorial United Methodist Church located at 401 Sherrouse Avenue with graveside services immediately following in Commerce, TX. Services will be officiated by Rev. Richard Turnley and Rev. Danny Baskin. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to Memorial United Methodist Church.
