He was born in Warnerton, LA of Jasper Noah and Phoebe Ferrell Conerly on May 19, 1923. He moved to Monroe as a young boy where he attended Georgia Tucker Elementary and graduated from Neville High School. He served in the Army during World War II where he saw action in three major battles, among them The Normandy Invasion and the Battle of the Bulge. After his discharge, he and his brother-in-law, Adam Priou, became partners in Priou and Conerly Electrical Contractors, which became Monroe's oldest electrical contracting business. He was a student of Mark Twain, Eugene Fields, and Robert W. Service, and could quote lengthy poems from memory. Mr. Conerly was a member of St. Patrick's Episcopal Church in West Monroe, LA. He was a patron member and volunteer of Strauss Theatre. He belonged to the American Legion Post #13 and was a dedicated supporter of The Ouachita Council on Aging, where he was proud to be their volunteer electrician. He was also a member of the D-Day survivors who meet once a year. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Mari Lynn Ferguson Conerly; son, Charles M. "Mike" Conerly; a brother, Charles "Bill" Conerly; and his sister and brother-in-law, Loyce and Adam Priou. Jim is survived by his wife of twenty-six years, Carla-Beth Conerly; his son and daughter-in-law, Marc and Rickie Conerly; a grandson, Shawn McAdams; granddaughter, Shaina Conerly; and great grandson, Aiden Conerly, all of West Monroe; a stepson and his wife, Paris and Lela Soulier of Denton, TX; and many good friends. Mrs. Conerly would like to thank all of the Agape Hospice members for the outstanding care offered Jim over the last months of his life with special gratitude going to Vickie, Ginger L., Pricilla, Amy, and Paul for all the love that was given.
