JR. COPELAND Maxie L. "Butch" Copeland, Jr. was born on September 10, 1946 to Marion Viola Copeland and Maxie L. Copeland, Sr. in Rayville, Louisiana. He went to the Lord on June 7, 2016 following a lengthy illness. He was a graduate of Rayville High School and following graduation went on to serve his country in the United States Air Force. During his career in the Air Force, he fought in the Vietnam War as a medic saving lives. He then attended Northeast Louisiana University where he met wife, Denise Knight Copeland. His career in the Air Force as a medic led him to a career as a medic on oil rigs, and then on to a 30 year career as a medical laboratory technician. Butch was also an author and an inventor, earning a United States patent on February 14, 1995. He was not only a talented man, but he was also a loving family man. He was an avid football fan and loved his New Orleans Saints, through thick and thin. He was known and loved by many in this community and will always be remembered. Butch is preceded in death by his parents, Maxie L. Copeland, Sr. and Marion Viola Copeland and his sister, Sandra Copeland Harrison. He is survived by his sister, Sherry Copeland Nelson; his wife, Denise Knight Copeland; his three daughters, Samantha, Heather, and Hilary; grandchildren, Chandler, CoCo, and Holden; and his great granddaughter, Adaleigh. Pallbearers are Jimmy Gaiennie, Jason Newman, Michael Schooler, Robert Rodgers, Barney Boydston, and Derek Johnson. Funeral services are 10:00 AM, Saturday, June 11, 2016 at the First Baptist Church, Rayville, LA with Bro. Johnny Hoychick and Dr. Eddie Wren officiating. Interment will follow in the Northeast Louisiana Veterans Cemetery, Rayville, LA.
