The Reverend John David Corley entered eternal life on Tuesday, November 25, 2008, at the age of 81. A retired Methodist minister, he was a native of Jena and made his home in Zachary, following his last appointment there. Rev. Corley received his B.A. from Northeast Louisiana University and did his theological training at SMU, Perkins School of Theology, in Dallas. He became a Probationary Member of the Louisiana Methodist Conference in 1959, came into Full Connection in 1963, became a Deacon in 1961, and an Elder in 1963. Rev. Corley was a Veteran of World War II, having proudly served in the 32nd Infantry Division. Through the years, Rev. Corley touched many lives as a Big Brother in Alcoholics Anonymous, a third degree Mason and past Grand Chaplain of the Masonic Lodge of Louisiana, and a Shriner. His pastorates include Canton Northside in Mississippi; and in Louisiana, Fairbanks/Bartholomew, Choudrant/Douglas, Farmerville, Trinity (Alexandria), Tallulah, Ponchatoula/Lee's Landing/Wesley Chapel, Coushatta, Winnsboro, and Zachary. Rev. Corley retired from the ministry in 1989 after thirty-five years of faithful service. Dave loved the outdoors and enjoyed hunting, fishing, boating, and watching hummingbirds. His family was dear to him, and he was able to spend his last days at home surrounded by those whom he loved. He is survived by "the love of his life" of 54 years, Beth Chapman Corley, a sister, Ruby Cloyd of Dallas, a daughter, Betsy Corley Storey and her husband David Storey of Lafayette, a son, Bill Corley and his wife Marla Galster Corley of Denham Springs, and a granddaughter, Elizabeth Miller, who was the light of his life. Rev. Corley is preceded in death by a son, Johnny David Corley, Jr., and a granddaughter, Grace Corley Ridenour. Visitation will be at Zachary United Methodist Church on Friday, November 28, at 9:00 AM until the service at 10:30 AM, conducted by Rev. Corley's friends Rev. Pat Ginn, Rev. Bob Lawton, and Rev. Jimmy Parker. Mrs. Linda Manes will provide ministry through music. A graveside service will follow at Mulhearn Memorial Park in Monroe, conducted by Rev. Michael Miller. Pallbearers will be Gary Greenlee, Gary Greenlee, Jr., Craig Perkins, Mike Loisel, and Skip Hudson. The family would like to express gratitude for the love and care given by Ginger Hughes, Dr. Kemp Amacker, and the staff of St. Joseph Hospice.
