CORRERO Van Sam Correro, Jr. 60, passed away Saturday, October 18, 2014 at his home in Monroe, Louisiana. A visitation will be held Wednesday, October 22, 2014, from 5:00 until 7:00 PM at Mulhearn Funeral Home, Sterlington Rd., Monroe, Louisiana. A visitation will be held Thursday, October 23, 2014 from 5:00 until 7:00 at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church, Clarksdale, Mississippi. Funeral Mass will be held Friday, October 24, 2014 at 10:00 AM in Clarksdale, Mississippi at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church. Interment will be in Shelby Cemetery, Shelby Mississippi. Van Sam Correro, Jr. was born in Clarksdale, MS to Van S. and Nan Williams Correro, Sr on June 28, 1954. During and following his college years at the University of MS he found he had a talent for managing restaurants, which he did in Oxford and later in Hattiesburg, MS. In 1979, he settled in Monroe, LA, where he worked in institutional food sales. During his 20 years in sales, he became well acquainted with the local restaurateurs. After a short stint working in the juvenile corrections system, Sam retired on disability. Sam was a devoted husband, father, uncle, and friend. He never met a stranger and managed to make an impression wherever he went. His presence will be missed by the many people that he came in contact whether they were close friends, family, or passing acquaintances. Sam was an avid outdoorsman. It was through his love of fishing and hunting that he found the most enjoyment. Sam was preceded in death by his son, John Michael, and his parents, Van and Nan Correro, Jr. He leaves his wife of 31 years, Jo Lynne Mangialardi Correro; a brother Michael (Tina) Correro; sister-in-law Sheila Buck, and brother-in-laws Andrew (Tammie) Mangialardi and Greg (Terri) Mangialardi; nieces/nephews: Madison and Bailey Correro, Ashley Buck, Marcie (Taylor)Patton, Will Buck, Andrew (Jessica) Buck, Drew Mangialardi, Ann Mangialardi, Paul Mangialardi, John Finley Mangialardi, and Alex Mangialardi; and grand-nieces Riley Patton, Kylie Wright, and grand-nephew Kaleb Buck.
