She was born in New Orleans on January 14, 1930, the eldest daughter of Stanley and Mabel Deas and older sister to Shirley Deas Gelpi Zibilich, Janet Deas Legrand and Mary Deas Demarest. Lettie graduated from high school and college at Ursuline Academy in New Orleans. On August 16, 1952, she married Harold James Counce. They moved to St. Louis, MO, and then to Lafayette, LA, before settling in Baton Rouge in 1959 to continue raising their growing family. In 1982, she and Harold moved to Monroe, LA, until 1991 when they returned to Baton Rouge. Lettie was Harold's caregiver from 1989 until his death in October 1991. Living her life for others, she was wife, mother and homemaker first, but spent countless volunteer hours at her children's schools and her Catholic Church parishes. After her husband's death she used her tireless energy to assist the Catholic Diocese of Baton Rouge Archives Department, the Friends of the LSU Library, and the St. Thomas More Church Bulletin, the Tower. Lettie was preceded in death by her beloved husband Harold, her parents Stanley Paul Deas and Mabel Schexnayder Deas, and a daughter Katherine Counce Bowling. She is survived by her three sisters; nine children: Paul D. Counce, Claudia C. Prewitt and husband Lavelle, Lydia C. Arledge and husband Don, Amy E. Counce, Julie C. Brignac and husband Lance, Stephanie C. Werling and husband Mike, Hilary C. McGraw and husband Thom, Melanie C. Montanaro and husband Robert, and Christopher C. As her husband had chosen to do, Lettie donated her body to the Tulane Medical Center for scientific research as a final, selfless gift. Father Paul Counce and fellow priests of the Diocese of Baton Rouge will concelebrate a Memorial Mass at St. Joseph Cathedral in Baton Rouge on Tuesday, June 28, 2016, at 6 pm. Following the service there will be a reception celebrating her life in the Cathedral Parish Hall. Everyone is invited to attend this Mass and reception. The family would like to extend their thanks and gratitude to all of Lettie's caregivers, especially Edmund Vinci, MD, the staff at Ollie Steele Burden Manor, and St. Joseph Hospice. Donations in her memory to your Church parish or favorite charity would be a wonderful way to continue her legacy of deep faith and generous service File at: http://files.usgwarchives.net/la/ouachita/obits/c/counce5375nob.txt This file has been created by a form at http://www.genrecords.net/lafiles/ File size: 3.5 Kb
