Yvonne passed away at her residence on the evening of March 30, 2015, exactly one month short of her 94th birthday. She was born on April 30, 1921 in Birmingham, Alabama. She married her sweetheart, Lucky, on December 1, 1940 in Mobile, Alabama. They began a life together which took them all over the country and around the world due to Lucky's career in the U.S. Air Force. Yvonne went beyond being a supportive wife and devoted mother to giving of herself through volunteer work wherever they went. She was very active in the American Red Cross and received its esteemed Clara Barton Award. While living in Madrid, Spain, Yvonne spent innumerable hours working as a part of the Family Services organization. She also was active in various PEO chapters in several communities, including Monroe. In 1998, Yvonne and Lucky moved to the Monroe/West Monroe area to be closer to their youngest daughter and her two girls. Rather than slowing down, they became more active than ever. They were often spotted around town in their Volvo convertible or walking together holding hands. After nearly 70 years of marriage, Lucky passed away in August of 2010. Thereafter, Yvonne began the last chapter of her life taking it on with a renewed zest and zeal for life and a willingness to try anything that was asked of her. On her 90th birthday, Yvonne won her age bracket in the Mullett Toss at the Florabama Lounge in Orange Beach, Alabama. She was such a hit, she was invited back every year thereafter where she was treated as royalty and tossed her mullet as a celebrity tosser. She rode in jacked up pick- up trucks, small air planes, open air jeeps checking gas well locations and most recently took on the roles of several Hollywood legends (James Bond, The Godfather and Darth Vader, to name a few) helping to film a continuing legal education presentation with her daughter. Yvonne is probably most famous for her beautiful doilies that she crocheted over the years as gifts of love with recipients ranging from U.S. Presidents, friends and loved ones, to their regular waiters and waitresses. She was a mess, a hoot and a doll. She will be sorely missed, but there is no sadness or regrets as she is now reunited with her love, our Dad. The two together were, and are, simply unforgettable. Yvonne is survived by her children, Jake Counselman of Lafayette; Ann Sears and her husband, Doug of Albuquerque, New Mexico; Cyd Page Jacobs and her husband, Joey of Monroe; as well as grandchildren Josh, Zachary and Shane Sears of Albuquerque, New Mexico; Michael Sears of Wichita, Kansas; Jessica Page Johnston and husband, Jeremy of Shreveport; Aly Page Taylor and her husband, Josh of West Monroe; Jonathan Jacobs of Lafayette; Justin Jacobs of Monroe; and Thomas Jacobs of New Orleans; as well as great-grandchildren Joey and Mason Sears of Albuquerque, New Mexico; Liam Johnston of Shreveport and Genevieve Taylor of West Monroe, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, friends and loved ones. Yvonne will be buried in Natchez at the National Cemetery with Lucky at 1:30 on Friday, April 3, 2015. No flowers are permitted. Accordingly, memorial contributions can be made to Ouachita Christian School or Claiborne Christian School. Online condolences may be made to the family at www.kilpatrickfuneralhomes.com.
